A Brief Note On “Fragmentation”

The spiritual and self-development worlds speak of a person’s “fragmentations” as the target for healing efforts. This note is the result of my re-creating the definition for myself to try and bring my mind beyond parroting jargon.

My definition is based in attention and awareness. Hitting a fragmentation is how a stimulus pulls you away from what you’re currently doing. If you hear your phone go off (as I just did) and you feel a strong urge to get up from your chair, this may show you a place where your self is split.

Now, it’s not a fragmentation if when you get up and check your phone, you want to stay with your phone. Then it’s just the new direction of wholeness. For it to be a true fragmentation there needs to be a back and forth, toing and froing quality.

The quintessential subconscious process here would be: “I wonder if I’ll find love in my writing…*hears phone*…oh! that’s a much more likely and immediate source…”
