Personal Transformation and the Intellect
It is said that you can’t transform just by reading about it.
A supportive analogy is that you have to physically step up to the plate, not just read about baseball.
Or that you have to actually workout your emotional muscles.
There is an important element missing from these analogies.
When you work out, your efforts are supported by the societal recognition that you’re doing something beneficial.
In emotional work, the whole point is you go to areas that don’t make sense to go to. There is so much talk about surrender. You are de emphasizing your sense making. Your sense making is only as valuable as your current results (roughly speaking, and with regard given to lagging outcomes).
Sadly, there may always be cults, as a side effect of this fact.
Surrender is as misinterpretable a word as can be .
You a result of the work of the universe. The self (aka the ego) is the cause of so much suffering because it is the divorce of awareness from truth — the truth of your connectedness to everyone and everything. The truth that it is not you, but nature, the universe, that sustains you.
