What is Stoicism?

This is just one interpretation, a “what we talk about when we talk about…” There are many others; mine introduces what I think is a new metaphor.

Assumption: there are benefits in having a way of addressing the certainty of suffering in one’s life. This can be done without intellectualisation.

Stoicism is like the prism which shows that the white light of emotion has constituent parts. Importantly, the prism does not want to do this. Stoicism is not active “deconstruction.” Understanding emotion is more a prelude* than a result of stoicism.
